What is British Ipsum?
British Ipsum is a free placeholder text generator with a difference: instead of the usual Latin, it fills your layouts with genuine British English — Cockney rhyming slang, plain-speaking Northern charm, frightfully posh waffle, corporate jargon, nervous apologies, estate agent euphemisms and certified comedy nonsense. Pick a dialect, choose words, sentences or paragraphs, set how much you need, and copy the results straight into your design.
Standard Lorem Ipsum has done sterling service since the sixteenth century, but it has one quiet flaw: it doesn't behave like English. Latin's word lengths, rhythms and letter shapes are noticeably different, so layouts that look perfect stuffed with 'consectetur adipiscing' can wobble the moment real copy arrives. British Ipsum gives you real English words with natural proportions — while being considerably more entertaining in client presentations.
How to use it
Choose a dialect above (or visit its dedicated page for the full experience), pick how much text you need, and hit Generate It. Use paragraphs for body copy, sentences for intros and cards, and words for headlines, buttons and labels. Then copy it to your clipboard and paste it wherever placeholder text is required — mock-ups, wireframes, prototypes, test databases, or the world's least helpful greeting card.
One small word of warning from bitter experience: do remember to swap it out before the site goes live. 'Apples and pears' has no place in a pension fund's annual report. Probably.
